Decarbonize pistons with engine tunercleaner or drilling tool

I´ve read in detail on boatsetup.com how to decarbonize carbs engines ( by Rowdy ). Very interesant and as my opinion well done...
But on the other side is money ( at the end allways money ) Lets take a round about other system to decarbonize pistons:
- Remove powerheads
- Clean piston heads with drilling tool
- Clean block head with drilling tool
Finish.

Only new seals to power heads must be ordered
Users in salt water can also clean cooling circuits.
From the cleanning point of view, I think that with drilling tool pistons will look better ( like a mirror )

I´m completly wrong ?

yours sugestions will be apreciated.

Franki Are you suggesting that we should all pull our motors down once a year and decarb manually?

If I was gonna do that, I'd buy new rings and stuff while I was there, and that would be a waste..

Since an engine that has been chemically decarbed properly and one that was stripped and done manually would probably be in the same condition after 10 hours. it really doesn't make that much difference..

Still, each to their own I guess..

look back over the threads, there was one recently that I tried,, (water decarb) and it worked pretty well, I did a chemical clean as well, but I must admit, the water was effective.

In English the cover over the pistons is called the heads. In my opinion what you are doing is OK,but you will still have to buy head gaskets and that will probly amount to more than the engine tuner.

skier Not only that but, some outboards (Mine included) don't have removable heads.

Just a thought.

Pulling the heads will only allow access to the piston tops and cylinder chambers. Carbon will also infect the ring lands and piston skirts. You'll still need to address these areas. A good soaking of carbon cleaner will soften and remove both.
One of the best lines of attack is to practise prevention.....
>proper mixture
>good grade oil
>minimal idling
>proper operating temperature

G DANE Another place carbon could build up is the exhaust ports in cylinder - and it steals power !!

Also unly removable the chemical way. We all need to clean piston skirts too, as carbon build up on skirt increases friction and cylinder wear.

Engine tuner is the only way.
