70s 20 hp johnson seahorse fuel/oil mixture ratio

cableman150	can anyone tell me the fuel mixture ratio for my 20 hp johnson sea horse? i tried 50 to 1 and that seems too rich and i am getting a lots of smoke any help would be appreciated thanks	2002-04-29
dharrin1	Hello. 50:1 is just right,maybe even a bit lean. The smoke you are making might be from a much to rich fuel /air mix in your carburator.Try adjusting your carburator and check both your plugs to see if they have proper spark. Let us know if that helps any. Good Luck.	2002-04-29
Beerbatter	That is right, I had a 1969 18 HP Evinrude and a 1976 25 hp johnson that had 50:1 ratio. They both smoked really bad, that is why the new EPA standards are such a good idea.	2002-04-29
Chinewalker	Hi Cableman, Keep running it at 50:1 ratio. You might want to experiement a bit with oils and see if you can lessen the smoke. Some synthetics produce virtually no smoke, but are more expensive. I have run AMSOil in some of my old motors and they seem to like it... just keep the ratio the same as you would with regular oil. - Scott	2002-04-30
